Sean Adams, a former University Professor and Administrator, has been teaching, training and coaching clients both in person and online for almost a decade. As founder and owner of ToGetSeen.com, he has trained and coached over 10,000 people on 3 continents. He is committed to helping anyone understand technical things without the use of “geek speak” so anyone can use their computer how they want.
Sean shared what Skype is, how to make and receive calls, the types of calls that are free and those that have a small cost as compared to landline especially long distance or international calls, how to create a Skype account and add contacts for one to call.
Fundamentally, Skype is a way to turn your computer into a cell phone to make calls, do text chatting and even video calls.
Getting started with Skype is as easy as going to www.skype.com and choosing Join. Fill out the form but don’t worry, the only required items are Country and Language on the initial setup. Creating your account requires a working email address and that you create a name for yourself. It is NOT required to be your real name but a name that can be recognized by your friends if they were to search for you.
You’ll be happy to know that Skype works on all brands of computers and their operating systems including Windows, Mac and Linux. Skype even works on all smartphones and tablets including Android and iPhone/iPad.
A lesson know feature but one that looks very interesting is that one can share their computer screen with the other person. You could use this to show people how to do certain things on the computer. However, this does not allow you to control the other person’s computer or for them to control yours.
It is advisable to use Skype while on wifi or connected tot he internet with a cable as calls can take up a bit of bandwidth. If the signal strength seems weaker, it is advisable to turn off video and use voice only or even go to text chat as these latter two take of considerably less bandwidth than video.
Thank you Sean for presenting to us.
